Personal Knowledge System
A public working record of one life being rebuilt on purpose — prayerfully, in the open, one commit at a time.
This site is not a portfolio and not a blog. It is more of a lab notebook or the operating record of a personal knowledge system. It is about ideas, articulating something about the disciplines I hold, the questions I am working, the tools I am building, and the reading that made them necessary. Everything here is open source because hard-won insight that stays private is wasted insight.
Why This Exists
I am grateful for a life I did not earn. That gratitude is not a mood; it is more than a method -- it is a discipline, a standard, a requirement. I want nothing to do with ungrateful people.
Gratitude sets the standard for how I spend attention, what I refuse to accumulate, and how quickly I abandon a habit that has stopped paying for itself.
The practical consequence of knowledge management is a heavy bias toward building rather than discussing ... why does knowledge matter, why does it have ANY value?
Better and better ideas are cheaper, more plentiful than ever -- there's no excuse for not implementing and doing hard things. Spectator activities, eg watching movies or sports, are fine for the developmental disabled and people being warehoused in nursing homes until they die.
What is scarce is the discipline to test an idea under real conditions, publish the result, and rebuild when the result is bad. That is the whole method: learn, build, validate, refactor, publish, repeat.
Six Commitments
1. Gratitude as foundation. I did not manufacture the good in my life, and I cannot be grateful enough for it. Gratitude is the cheapest available correction to self-pity, entitlement, and bad judgment — and the most reliable one.
2. Original over imitation. We are created to be originals, not duplicates. Following a crowd is comfortable and expensive: it trades a unique calling for a common average. Appreciation of others' excellence is not imitation of it.
3. Subtraction over accumulation. Ownership is a maintenance obligation. Possessions, opinions, commitments, and subscriptions all bill me monthly in attention. Fasting, solitude, and deliberate emptiness are how I find out what I actually need — usually far less than I assumed.
4. Discipline as freedom. Freedom that is given is never valued the way freedom that is earned through disciplined struggle is. Constraints I choose — early hours, hard training, simple food, short sentences — buy the autonomy I could not otherwise afford.
5. Craft validated by reality. Good intentions are not evidence. An idea earns its place by surviving contact with a real system, a real customer, a real measurement, or a real deadline. Autodidactic effort counts only when reality signs off on it.
6. Citizenship as engineering. Institutions fail for the same reasons processes fail: unclear specifications, misaligned incentives, no measurement, no feedback loop. Improving the ones that matter — locally, concretely, in code and in community — is engineering work, not politics.
What I Am Building
- A somewhat disciplined daily practice. Prayer, writing, and physical training on a fixed cadence, tracked honestly in the daily journal.
- Agentic infrastructure that disappears. Ephemeral, sandboxed, self-testing compute — deployed briefly, observed closely, destroyed cleanly. Tooling should reduce burden, not add it.
- Robotics and industrial systems that hold up under hostile conditions. Hands-on work in heterogeneous, autonomous, and remote systems, with causal inference and exhaustive root-cause investigation as the core method — the same method that governs continuous improvement on a production line.
- Discipleship technology. Faith-aligned tools for habit, attention, and character, built to be measured rather than merely admired.
Agentic AI appears in all four as a tool for compressing my own workflow — never as the point. The point is reclaimed time for worship, work, and the people in front of me.
How I Work in Public
Everything is written, dated, and versioned. Notes live in the open, tools are dogfooded before they are recommended, and the journal is the primary source rather than the polished summary. What is published here is the current state of my thinking, not a finished position — and it changes when the evidence changes.
I would rather be corrected than admired.
Working With Me
I am open to conversation with people building practical personal knowledge engineering, agentic operations tooling, industrial improvement systems, or community-scale self-reliance.
Ideally bring the minimal viable prototype to demonstrate -- otherwise, bring something written, something thought through. A paragraph describing the problem, the constraint, and what you have already tried is worth more than an hour of unstructured conversation — yours or mine. If our paths align in service to Christ and the empowerment of free people, we should meet. Preferably in the garden, the gym, or on the mat.
Train. Be able. Live voluntarily.
